Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)

These are skilled professionals with work experience who wish to become permanent residents.

To be eligible, you must meet all the requirements:

  • Score 67 or above out of 100 based on the selection factors in the federal skilled worker points grid
  • 1 year of continuous full-time (1560 hours) or equivalent part-time paid work experience within the National Occupational Classification (NOC) TEER categories: TEER 0, TEER 1, TEER 2, and TEER 3
  • Language testing approved by IRCC; Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 in English, which is equivalent to IELTS score 6 in each band or NCLC level 7 in French
  • Education equivalent to Canadian post-secondary; equivalency must be assessed by IRCC authorized agencies
  • Settlement funds
  • Medical exam
  • Security check.

Federal Skilled Trades (FST)

These are skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade and are not assessed on a point system.

Skilled trade occupations are NOC level B and are in the major groups of:

  • Industrial, electrical and construction trades;
  • Maintenance and equipment operations trades;
  • Supervisors and technical occupations in natural resources, agriculture and related production;
  • Processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators;
  • Chefs and cooks; and
  • Butchers and bakers.

Eligibility Requirements for FST

To make a successful application, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements.

  • Language:The minimum language requirements are Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 for speaking and listening in English or French, and CLB 4 for reading and writing in English or French;

  • Work experience:Two years of full-time work experience (1,560 hours per year) or equal amount of part-time work experience in an eligible skilled trade occupation within last five years;

  • Employment requirements: To determine whether the candidate has the relevant employment experience and qualifies as a member of FST class, may need trade certification or Canadian work experience.  Trades are provincially or territorially regulated in Canada and therefore may need to obtain trade certification from the province or territory;

  • Education: There is no education requirement for this class. However, to earn points under Express Entry system, candidates must have Canadian equivalent post-secondary education. 

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.

To be eligible, you must meet all the minimum requirements for

  • Canadian skilled work experience
  • language ability
  • Education
